Placenta Services
Did you know that the placenta "tree of life" contains many beneficial substances such as hormones, proteins, and iron that are said to help the healing processes after birth (both emotionally- for mood disorders and low energy, and physically- for blood health, uterine health, balancing hormones, and milk production)? Some of these are Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone, Oxytocin, Prolactin, CRH, IgG, hPL, Urokinase Inhibiting Factor and Factor XIII and more! Placentophagy (consumption of the placenta organ) is normal for mammals and can be an important way to help ease into the postpartum period. Texas Government passed TX HB 1670 which requires all hospitals and birth centers to release placentas to the parents on request.
I offer Placenta Services (including Encapsulation, Tincture, Umbilical Cord Keepsake, and Canvas Prints) to everyone eligible for encapsulation in the DFW metroplex. Safety is my #1 priority, I have a TX Food Handler's Certificate and Biologix Blood Born Pathogens training and certificate specifically for Placenta Encapsulation Specialists. I only process one placenta at a time and your name and the date of birth is labeled with your placenta at each step. The placenta needs to be double bagged (2 gallon-sized zip lock bags are great) at your place of birth immediately after delivery and placed on ice in a cooler. I will come to you to pick up your placenta. My preparation space is cleaned properly with an appropriate bleach solution before, during, and after each encapsulation, and properly sanitized equipment is always used following OSHA and EPA guidelines. Using the steaming method, your placenta is drained, cleaned, trimmed, and steamed. After the steaming process, it is very thinly sliced and placed in my lined dehydrator at the proper temperature of 160 degrees. Once dehydrated, the encapsulation process can begin. I use all-natural vegetable capsules in size 0. I will deliver and drop off your prints, capsules and a dehydrated cord keepsake for you immediately at a postpartum appointment, to either your home or place of birth if you have an extended stay in the hospital so that you have your capsules between 48-72 hours after birth. You will receive your capsules, prints, cord keepsake (and tincture when it is completed after 8 weeks postpartum) and usage/storage recommendations as part of the encapsulation service.
